This is the first weekend in a month that my son hasn’t been here, and so it’s the first weekend in a month that I’ve really gotten to kick back and relax.  Two air-conditioners, working in tandem, have managed to reduce the temperature up here to less than 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and that’s half the fight, so I ignored the brilliant daylight and slept in.  Since getting up, I’ve washed a few dishes and made myself a bowl of John McCann’s Steel-Cut Irish Oatmeal, with peaches and maple syrup and cinnamon and milk.  I might follow it up with a cup of chai spice tea, if my stomach will consent to behave itself.

Not much progress on the apartment, unless you count buying an antiqued tin sign that reads, “Coffee! You Can Sleep When You’re Dead”, and nailing that to the kitchen wall.  After I asked whether a door that fits the bedroom doorway might be hanging around in the basement, or in the shed, the landlady decided that she was going to get someone professional up here to custom install a new one;  it turns out there were sliding doors on the bedroom previously, but they were cheap and kept breaking, so one tenant finally asked that they just be taken out.  No firm word on when that work will start.   In the meantime, I might be able to put away a few more things today, if I can get through the maintenance-level tasks first.  The birds are overdue to be cleaned, I need to vacuum, put the laundry away, clean the bathroom sink, water the plants.  Etcetera.

Not too much going on in the near future, either.  I have work until the end of this month, and no prospects after that.  Father’s Day is coming up, but Jack and I don’t have any clear plans.  Probably the only really exciting thing on the horizon is that Dragonia will be joining me here, West of the Rivers, for over a month, while her son is away visiting his grandparents.  Looking forward to that!
