What the HELL?!
Posted by Ace on September 13th, 2009 filed in letters from Ace, Mini Cooper geekAnother British Racing Green white-topped Mini Cooper-S tonight, this time IN SEALAND. It coalesced out of nowhere on my 10 driving home via Route 33, preceded me into town, and we ran tail to nose until we hit the light at Boardwalk. He turned right. I went straight. Nobody gets off Route 33 and then drives Boardwalk unless they’re targeting someplace in Sealand. If he was going to Rutledge, he could have gotten off 33 one exit earlier and gone straight there.
What is this, Those Annoying Post Brothers?

[shrugs] It’s a popular car, and you picked a popular style.

Like hell. I’ve lived in Sealand for six years, and have been visiting my son in Shadetree for six years likewise. Probability alone says I should have crossed paths with either or both of them before now. They’re hard to miss…

Were you looking for these cars 6 years prior?

Let it be herein recorded that just last week I wrote a yet-unsent email to a certain interregnal blogger, and in said email, for reasons mostly unknown to me, referenced Those Annoying Post Brothers, after having not thought of them for about two full decades.
…in accordance with prophecy.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!
No, I was not looking for such cars six years earlier. But there are many cars that are distinctive enough to draw my attention without any need for me to be specifically looking for them. I generally notice DeLoreans, for example, and Lamborghinis, and Rolls Royces, and Volkswagen Beetles (new and old), and SmartCars, and those boxey-cubey weird-ass cars that I don’t even know the model name of (one of which also parks frequently in front of my son’s co-op in Shadetree). It does not seem unreasonable to me to include white-topped Mini Coopers in that category.
Unless, you know, gorillas are driving them through basketball games. :)
