Persona Non Grata

I love it when I throw a question out there on Facebook–  ostensibly a “social networking” question, the kind of mild query for opinions that takes very little time to respond to, and doesn’t involve anything embarrassing or personal–  and no one responds.  Not even to say something funny.  And by “love it”, I mean, “find it mildly annoying”.  Other people do that all the time, about things they want to know, and they get feedback.  What’s wrong with me?

On the other hand it was a query for opinions regarding good free Windows-based SSH applications, pursuant to the activities I described below.   So I suppose it’s remotely possible that no-one who happened to look at Facebook that day had any idea what the hell I was talking about.

Still.

I don’t know the demographic spread of your Facebook friends, so I don’t know the likelihood of who knows enough about your question to have been able to decipher it, much less answer it. (I looked at it, figured you knew someone with more expertise than I, and moved on.)

I also don’t know whether *you* have ever answered anyone’s queries on Facebook to know if you are due some quid pro quo. If you are, then your friends need to pony up. If you’re not, then maybe you need to interact more on Facebook to be more present so that your queries, when presented, get noticed.

I personally don’t receive the kinds of discussions of the order Lipz does, but I do think that’s because a) I don’t have a wide base of friends, and b) I don’t post things that are provocative. I am sometimes envious that he often gets 50+ comments, but then I know that I neither generate posts that elicit comments, nor do I have many friends who spend a lot of time discussing stuff on Facebook, so I get what I get.
